IWU Distinctives
Founded in 1920, Indiana Wesleyan University has become the largest private university in the state of Indiana. Our graduates tell us they chose IWU because of how our courses flex around their work schedules, and the extra student services we provide at no cost that help them attend college while raising a family.

IWU understands its 12,000+ adult students prefer to earn their bachelor's (or master's) degrees quickly and conveniently in their home communities while they work full-time and raise their families. Here are IWU's distinctives and how they will help working adults complete their education while they work full-time*:

IWU's Tradition

  • IWU is a Christian liberal arts university. You can expect caring faculty and staff members, and ethical topics in your coursework to be addressed from a Christian perspective.
  • US News & World Report has rated IWU one of the nation's top Masters universities again in 2008.

Cohort Class Model

  • IWU uses the cohort method of learning. You will take all courses with the same classmates and graduate together as a group.
  • Personal attention b/c cohorts are kept small. Typically cohort sizes run between 12 & 18 students.
  • Courses are taken one-at-a-time. This allows you to focus on just one subject when you study.
  • Courses are scheduled back-to-back with up to 10 week-long breaks scattered throughout the year.
  • Because courses are taken back-to-back there are no semesters. Cohorts of students are forming year round. You choose which time of the year is most convenient to start.
  • If personal problems arise during your program (in most cases) you have the option of skipping a course, making it up later, and still graduating with your cohort.

Classroom-based or Online

  • If you chose to take courses in a classroom-based format you will attend class in the same classroom one night per week on the same night of the week for all courses.
  • If you choose the online method of learning (IWU uses Blackboard ©) you will never need to travel to an IWU Education Center to attend a class, register for class, or pick up textbooks.

Tuition & Financial Aid

  • We hold our tuition rates low compared to other online and private universities because as a not-for-profit, Christian school we are dedicated to providing an outstanding education at an affordable price.
  • Once you enroll your tuition rate, books and fees will freeze, guaranteeing your total cost will not increase during your program.
  • You are billed one course at a time, as you take them so you can create a budget and a personal payment plan.
  • If your employer assists you with your tuition payments you do not need to pay for the course before you take it. We will give your employer time to reimburse you after you receive your grade before you pay for the course.
  • All students are considered full-time students and will qualify for 100% financial aid (Standard Exclusions Apply.)

Free Student Services

  • You are given access and taught how to use our many library data bases and reference books. Also our librarians will assist you with research at no additional charge.
  • Seven days per week you may speak toll-free with a computer tech help desk consultant. They exist to help you trouble-shoot your tech problems or questions.
  • When you enroll you are automatically registered for all courses in your BS degree program so you will never need to register for a class again.
  • We automatically mail your textbooks to your home so you will not need to order them or pick them up.

*Speak with an Admissions Rep to see if any exceptions exist.
