Course Descriptions

Full Course Descriptions

These are the courses that make up the IWU Transition to Teaching program. Through TTT's seven courses for those desiring to become Secondary teachers and ten for students desiring to become Elementary teachers, you will be taught a wide array of teaching strategies, theories, techniques, and methods to prepare you for the classroom.

The Transition to Teaching program at IWU was created to move students quickly through the program, yet at a pace where students can learn the material well and maintain personal time with their families. To accomplish this, the faculty members have created each Transition to Teaching course in an accelerated format.

  • Most courses are six to ten weeks long, meeting only on Saturdays or online.
  • Students take only one course at a time so they can focus their study on one topic at a time, except during the Student Teaching Experiences which cover the entire semester.
  • Students stay together as a group while they take the series of eight core classes, ten if they are seeking an elementary teaching license.
  • All students will be required to complete daily classroom experiences during the integrated student teaching experience courses. Students seeking an elementary license must complete three student teaching experiences, while students seeking a secondary license participate in two student teaching experiences to put into practice the teaching methods they are learning. Each student teaching experience lasts the entire semester.
  • Most of the course involve some contact with students during the school day in pre-student teaching field experiences.

Some of the courses are online.
