Attendance Policy
The nature of the APS programs requires students to attend all class sessions. Classes are held once a week for four hours, during which the entire class meets with the instructor. APS students can anticipate meeting a second time during the week with their peers to complete projects.

If a student exceeds the allowed absences and does not contact the Office of Student Services to officially withdraw before the last class session, the instructor is directed to issue a failing grade.

Under emergency circumstances, a student may be allowed one on-site absence in courses that are five class sessions or fewer in length. Students must contact the faculty member regarding make-up work.

Faculty members reserve the right to factor lateness and early departures as well as class attendance into a student's grade, as long as it is addressed in the syllabus.

On-site Attendance Defined:
Students are expected to be present when class begins, and remain the entire workshop. To be counted as present, a student must attend a total of three hours or more of a class four hours in length.

In the event that the instructor is delayed, students are required to wait one hour. If the instructor does not arrive in one hour, students will not be required to make up the class.

  Online Attendance Defined:
Attendance is determined by participating in discussions. Failure to participate in at least one designated discussion during the workshop it is assigned will constitute an absence for that workshop. Participating in discussions does not guarantee full participation points. The criteria for full participation points will be determined by the course facilitator.

Project Team Policy
Indiana Wesleyan University uses Project Teams in its curriculum, realizing that the team project process can add substantially to learning, especially for adult professionals. Project Teams, comprised of three to five self-selected individuals, meet to complete the assigned curriculum and activities. Project teams may meet face-to-face, in virtual meetings, by faxing, conference calls, or by email.

Grading Procedures
At the end of each course, the instructor submits grades for each student to the Office of Student Services for processing within seven days after completion of the course. Grade reports are mailed from the Indiana Wesleyan University Records Office and indicate courses taken, credits received and grades assigned.

Incomplete Grades
Students are expected to complete all course requirements by the last class session. In rare instances of unforeseeable circumstances, a grade of "I" (Incomplete) may be issued, but only after the following process is completed:

  1. The student must request an "I " from the instructor.
  2. The instructor must obtain approval from the appropriate academic director. (This approval may be obtained verbally.)

A student who receives an "incomplete" has 10 weeks from the final meeting date of the course to complete course requirements and turn them in to the instructor. If, at the end of the 10-week extension, the student has failed to complete the course requirements, the "incomplete" will become an "F".

Honors
Graduation honors are open to all undergraduate bachelor students with a minimum of 80 graded hours from institutions regionally accredited, or accredited by the American Association of Bible Colleges, of which 40 graded hours must be from Indiana Wesleyan University. All elective classes taken with IWU apply toward honors. See the APS Bulletin for full honors policy.

Student Honesty/Cheating
Students are expected to exhibit honesty in the classroom, in homework, in papers submitted to the instructor and in quizzes and exams. Each instructor should define what constitutes honest work in a specific course. Any deviation from ordinary standards, such as the permitted use of notes for an examination or an "open book" test, should be stated clearly by the instructor.

Because the matter of cheating and/or plagiarism cumulatively leads to dismissal, faculty are required to report each case to the Vice President for APS. Unquestionable evidence must be in hand before any action will be taken to confront and accuse a student of cheating. Refer to the APS Bulletin for complete guidelines.

Academic Suspension
Academic suspension will result if a student fails to clear the academic probationary status within the probationary period of two consecutive courses. A student who has two grades of failure (F) at one time on an academic record will be suspended when the grades have been recorded in the Records Office. The student is notified of the academic suspension in writing. Once suspended, a student may reapply for admission after six months. Application for re-admission must be made in writing to the Dean of the College of Adult and Professional Studies, who may require a personal interview.

Financial Suspension
Tuition must be received two weeks prior to the start date of class. Failure to remit tuition by the due date will result in automatic withdrawal. Students in a core must have all balances current to enroll in an elective. Financial suspension occurs when a core or elective balance becomes past due.
