About the Program
Exceptional Learners Program
Leave no child left behind. This is the heart and the soul of the Indiana Wesleyan University accredited licensure program for Exceptional Needs: Mild Intervention. Teachers who work with students with exceptional needs are more than just educators. They work with students, parents, and other professionals to meet and overcome the challenges that these students experience. They provide learning environments that bring opportunities for students' success.
You are Needed. Exceptional education teachers see possibilities and strengths in their students. They strive to develop and implement goals that will not only challenge students' growth, but will also have positive outcomes. IWU's Exceptional Learners Program is designed for those who want to be teachers that are equipped with the current knowledge and skills that they can apply effectively with students in the areas of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral.
Program Overview
Teaching exceptional education is one of the most demanding careers and one of the most rewarding. You will have an opportunity to teach students who experience a diversity of exceptional needs. In order to unlock the potential in your students, the IWU's Exceptional Learners Program will assist you in the current knowledge and skills that may be applied in various school settings with various types of disabilities.
Designed specifically for teaching exceptional education, this combined onsite/online program accepts graduates who hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university or from an affiliate of the Association for Biblical Higher Education. It prepares them for licensure in Indiana in Exceptional Needs Mild Intervention. Your license qualifies you to work with children in the categories of mildly mentally handicapped, emotionally handicapped, learning disabilities, orthodedic impaired, and autism. If you plan to use this license in another state, please contact your state's licensing agency for requirements.
Program Delivery
The course delivery format is a combination of onsite and online classes. The classroom environment will connect you to a support network of peers and instructors who are leaders in their field, creating for you an exceptional education licensure program that brings the experience of learning from people with many cultures and backgrounds. Learn new approaches that give you a motivational and competitive edge. Candidates will need ready access to high speed internet server, hardware, and software that meet the minimum requirements as identified for all Indiana Wesleyan University candidates.
