Admission & Licensure Requirements
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university or from an affiliate of The Association for Biblical Higher Education.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 from the baccalaureate degree-granting institution at which at least a minimum of 30 hours were completed.
- If candidate has a state issued teaching license (not including a substitute teacher's license), a copy is required. Or, a copy of Praxis I scores is required. Minimum passing Praxis I scores are Math 175, Reading 176, and Writing 172.
- Satisfactorily pass and submit from the state of residence a criminal history background check and sexual offender screening.
PROGRAM COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
- Successful completion of the 25 semester hour curriculum
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum grade of "B-" in all required courses
- Satisfactory completion of the Applied Competency Assessment Portfolio
- Passing scores on Praxis II as required by the State of Indiana
- Payment of all tuition and fees
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for recommendation of licensure, a student must:
- Earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum grade of "B-" in all exceptional learners program courses
- Submit an electronic portfolio demonstrating satisfactory competence in required standards
- Receive a recommendation from the candidate's supervising teacher
- Receive a recommendation from the principal of the candidate's cooperating K-12 school(s)
- Submit satisfactory scores on the appropriate Praxis tests as defined by the State of Indiana
Successful completion of this program and satisfactory scores on the state required test(s) will allow students to apply for licensure in Exceptional Needs: Mild Intervention in the State of Indiana. This would permit teachers to be hire by school districts to instruct students that have been identified as learning disabled, mildly mentally handicapped, emotionally handicapped, orthopedic impaired, and autistic. The school setting is dependent upon the approved program completed. The settings include: elementary primary, elementary intermediate, middle school/junior high, high school, and all school.
*Non-Indiana candidates applying for this program need to contact the state licensing agency in their home state to review reciprocity rules and verify whether an Indiana license would be accepted and/or if add-ons would be required.
