Indiana Teacher License Renewal and Professionalization
The State of Indiana requires teacher license renewals
to be processed through a university where the teacher has taken
at least 3 semester hours of coursework. (A total of 6 semester
hours is necessary to qualify for renewal.) Please
email your request for an application packet or download
the instructions and applications.
A limited Criminal History Report generated from
the Indiana State Police Repository is mandatory for all applicants.
In order to fulfill NCATE accreditation requirements,
Indiana Wesleyan University requires that all courses applicable
toward teacher license renewal and professionalization be taken
at the graduate level. The Graduate Studies in Education Dept. is
happy to provide license renewal for standard and professional licenses.

Standard License
The standard license is valid for a period of 5
years from the date of issue. Upon expiration, it may be renewed
for a five-year period provided 6 semester hours of graduate level
coursework in a major, minor or in professional education are completed
during the previous five-year period.
Professional License
The requirements for professionalizing a teaching
license vary according to academic discipline. ALL professionalization
applications, however, will require completion of a MASTER'S DEGREE.
In addition, applicants must submit proof of having completed five
(5) years of appropriate teaching experience (subsequent to the
issuance of the standard license) in accredited schools and at the
level covered by the license.
The applicant who wishes to professionalize a senior
high/junior high/middle school or all grades license will be required
to complete six (6) semester hours of graduate work in the academic
discipline covered by the license. Although Indiana Wesleyan University
can renew any Teaching, Administrative or School Services license,
IWU cannot professionalize an Administrative, Exceptional Learners program or Counseling license.
Indiana Wesleyan's Program
The Master's in Education with a focus in Curriculum
and Instruction from Indiana Wesleyan University has been approved
by the Indiana Professional Standards Board to professionalize the
General Elementary license.
Upon completion of the master's degree, and submission
of proof of appropriate teaching experience, the Certification Advisor
of Indiana Wesleyan University will assist students in completion
of the application for professionalization. ALL courses required
to professionalize the elementary license are included in the CORE
for the Master's in Curriculum and Instruction.
