Instructions For Indiana Teacher License Renewal and/or Professionalization

As of January 1, 2009, Indiana Wesleyan University, in cooperation with the Indiana Department of Education’s Office of Educator Licensing and Development, has adopted the Teacher Online Licensing System as its primary mode of license processing. This includes initial licensure, additional licensure, renewals, and conversion to professional licensure.

The Teacher Online Licensing System’s process of license renewal/professionalizing has many advantages over the traditional paper version of licensure including the following:

1. Speed (the online process takes 3-4 weeks verses up to 6 weeks with the paper version)
2. As part of the online process, the OELD will perform the Limited Criminal History check for you
3. There are fewer items being sent via the US mail, preventing delays and potential lost materials
4. The electronic version is more environmentally friendly as less paperwork is required to complete the process

In order to ensure the prompt and efficient processing of your application, please follow these easy instructions and retain for future reference.

If you do not have the ability to apply for your license renewal online and require the paper instructions, please email your request for the paper instructions to the licensing advisor at terry.dieckmann@indwes.edu. Please understand that the paper instructions should be used as a last resort only and not as the primary mode of application.

RENEWAL NOTE: The State will not allow a person to apply for the renewal of his/her teacher’s license until at least 60 days prior to the license expiration date. Any license request submitted earlier than that time will be returned to the applicant or held until the 60 day window is met.
