Write out brief answers to the following questions:

1. What is the central issue of this essay? What are the three main points? Are they hard to find? Who is the intended audience?

 

 

 

2. Does the essay make sense? Is its order easily discernable? State that order if you can. Does each paragraph follow from the one preceding it and move the reader into the next one (transition)? Does each paragraph have good order in itself? Are there enough examples, enough reasons, enough evidence to be convincing? Place an asterisk (*) beside any paragraph that lacks development.

 

 

 

 

3. Re-read the essay for sentence clarity. Put an X beside any line which contains a confusing sentence. Any sentence which has to read twice to be understood should be checked.

 

 

4. Re-read the essay for spelling, punctuation, word usage, or grammar errors; then underline those you find.

 

 

5. Make two specific suggestions for improving the essay. (For example: the first paragraph should be re-written to introduce the topic better; third paragraph needs to have a clearer topic sentence; more examples are needed for the third body paragraph; the second and third body paragraphs should be switched so that the ideas flow more logically; etc.)
