World Changer Initiatives

Facilitator name:  Diane Henry, Ed. D.

Course name & number:  EDU 537, Multiple Intelligences Online (PLS)

Ways in which this class incorporates world changer ideas:

My students are from all over the United States. The course is very well developed and uses many instructional methods.  Students use a text, several videos, and web sites in order to assess the information they are required to learn.  Students can learn at their own rate – there are some weekly due dates for assignments, but other than that, students may access the course information at their convenience.

I challenge anybody who thinks “on line” courses are less than rigorous to inspect this course.  The topic does only address one major educational theory, a drawback, to be sure.  BUT, for the purposes for which it is designed, it serves the students well. The MI theory itself is well-researched and developed.

Those from IWU who design on-line courses should really inspect this one.  I have seen some pretty “sketchy” stuff out there from other universities, passing for college on-line courses.  This PLS one has to be among the best and should serve as a model for design. So much for the worldly view of “world changing”.

Now for the Kingdom view: the on-line format requires a facilitator page for the students to inspect. On this page, I state my Christian position and the conditions surrounding my Christian conversion. Even though the sponsor of the course is a “secular” business, I have not been discouraged concerning the information I have posted.  Each student has a “private discussion room” where they freely converse about many things and some use this to comment on my Christianity and theirs.  Other discussion rooms allow students to post information about themselves, their families, their activities, and their beliefs.  It is encouraging to read these because they reflect the light for other students.
