About the Program
The Center for Distributed Learning offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Information Systems (BSBIS). This degree provides a liberal arts education while emphasizing career preparation. Students are provided with a rigorous theoretical background coupled with practical and essential skills to begin either a rewarding career in the computer field or advanced studies in graduate school.
The BSBIS program cultivates the development of student knowledge about the creation, function, management and continuing adaptation of information systems within organizations affected by the dynamic global business environment. In consonance with the IWUOnline's mission, the BIS undergraduate program strives to prepare graduates with balanced strengths in business, management, and information technologies bridled by our world-changing ethics-based curriculum. Graduates bring a strong moral work ethic, a theory base that encourages and supports lifelong learning in business and information systems, and applied skills that form the underpinnings of success in the corporate setting.
Students learn to focus on the strategic role of information systems, to consider how information systems impact the performance of and add value to organizations and to analyze and design computer-based systems from a thorough comprehension of management and technology theory and practice. Graduates of the BSBIS program know how to acquire knowledge in a rapidly changing world, how to evaluate information and alternatives based on both appropriate analytic methods and common sense, and to disseminate results and recommendations effectively in written and oral presentations.
