About the Program
The Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) prepares managers as both economic and ethical leaders. The concept of the business manager as both economic and ethical leader represents a break from more traditional views. This more contemporary concept of managers has grassroots support from the business community, where diverse organizations are requesting a new generation of MBA graduates.
Effective leaders in organizations are able to integrate and apply functional knowledge (accounting, economics, finance, and operations) to the decision-making process. Additionally they are able to acquire the management and leadership skills necessary to solve complex problems.
The MBA program cultivates the development of student knowledge about the diverse discipline of business administration within organizations affected by the dynamic global business environment. In concert with IWU's mission, the MBA program strives to prepare graduates with balanced strengths in quantitative and qualitative skills including critical thinking, analysis, consensus-building, and ethical leadership bridled by our world-changing ethics-based curriculum.
Graduates will demonstrate the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex management problems requiring both technical understanding and balanced decision-making. They will also demonstrate an ability to do so using a cooperative approach within a peer group or management team context. Graduates will bring a strong moral work ethic, a theory base that encourages and supports lifelong learning in business, and applied skills that form the foundation of success in the corporate setting. Graduates of the MBA program know how to acquire knowledge in a rapidly changing world, how to evaluate information and alternatives based on both appropriate analytic methods and common sense, and to disseminate results and recommendations effectively in written and oral presentations.
Faculty members in the MBA program stress a demanding, in-depth, and integrated educational experience for students. They emphasize application of theory to practice in their teaching and learning philosophies. Students benefit from the state of the art knowledge acquired from faculty research and from the close involvement of the faculty with companies and organizations.
While MBA faculty members lead busy professional lives, they always find time to communicate by e-mail, telephone, and in person with students who have problems or questions. Faculty members take pride in their extensive contact with students and the continuous innovation in their courses. The MBA adjunct faculty and many of the regular faculty members bring many years of experience as senior managers and professionals in their fields.
