About the Program

The Special Education Licensure program is designed to meet the Special Education licensure needs of state licensed classroom teachers. The special education courses will be graduate level and will focus on a students application of theory to an appropriate classroom or other settings. The program is asynchronous and web-based, which means that a teacher can pursue your special education licensure while continuing to teach.

Field Application
Successful completion of the Special Education Licensure program will require that the student arrange and participate in field applications in several of the courses for course completion. The student will need to identify a classroom teacher licensed in Mild Intervention and/or Severe or Profound Intervention to serve as a mentor to oversee the application of course material. The students will seek out a school system of their choice that will allow them to complete their field applications at a location that will best fit into their schedule. Prior to the start of the program a Practicum Placement Request Form will need to be completed and returned to the Admissions Office

Accreditation
Indiana Wesleyan University Online’s Special Education Licensure program is accredited by the Indiana Professional Standards Board (IPSB), the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). IWU is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
