Admission & Graduation Requirements

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements are as follows:
  1. High School diploma or G.E.D.
  2. Two years of full-time work or life experience, which can include significant philanthropic, home, or volunteer experience.
Graduation Requirements

To graduate with an Associate of Science degree with a major in General Studies from the College of Adult and Professional Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University, the following requirements must be met:
  1. Completion of 62 credit-hours, of which at least 30 credit-hours must be completed at Indiana Wesleyan University
  2. Completion of the required concentration and elective requirements with a GPA of 2.00 or higher
  3. A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  4. Completion of 23 hours of liberal arts as specified
  5. Payment of all tuition and fees
Liberal Arts (General Education) Requirements:
  1. 9 credits in Humanities (ENG 242, HST180, MUS180, PHL283)
  2. 3 credits in Biblical Literature (BIL)
  3. 3 credits in English Composition (ENG 140 or ENG 141 or the equivalent, must be completed with grade of "C" or better)
  4. 3 credits in Social Science (ECO, HST, POL, PSY, SOC)
  5. 2 credits in physical education (PHE)
  6. 3 credits in Science or Math (BIO, EAR, SCI, MAT)
Required Electives
  1. 2 credits in first-year seminar (UNV 111)
  2. 1 credit in Liberal Arts Appreciation (UNV 201)
Concentration
  1. 15 credit hours total with a 2.0 G.P.A.
  2. 9 of 15 hours must be completed at IWU
  3. Concentrations include those listed below.
  4. Individualized concentrations must be approved by the General Studies Faculty Committee.
Concentration Elements:
  • Business — courses with ACC, ADM, BUS, ECO, or MGT prefixes, except ADM 400
  • Communications — courses with ENG, WRI, and COM prefixes, as well as MGT 205
  • Criminal Justice — courses with a CRJ prefix and SOC 246, PSY 365, and PHE 366
  • Computer Information Technology — courses with CIT and BIS prefixes
  • Entrepreneurship — ECO 300, two or more courses in accounting, one or more courses in human resources (MGT435 or MGT490), one or more non-human resources MGT courses, and ADM or BUS courses.
  • Fine Arts — courses with ART and MUS prefixes and foreign language courses
  • History – courses with HST prefixes and REL225
  • Human Services — courses with SOC and PSY prefixes, and CRJ 268
  • Liberal Arts — courses with BIO, ECO, HST, POL, PSY, PHL, REL, AND SOC prefixes
  • Life Sciences – courses with BIO, CHE, EAR and PHE140, PHE141, PHE362, PHE366, with coursework from at least two separate areas required.
  • Marketing – courses with MKG prefix, and MGT421
  • Mathematics – courses with MAT prefixes and ADM320
  • Religious Studies – courses with BIL, REL and PHL prefixes
  • Individualized Concentration — Permits customized concentration with approval of General Studies Faculty
