Class Representative Handbook
Adult and Professional Studies

Introduction

Thank you for accepting the responsibility of being a Class Representative. The role you now play can be rewarding and enjoyable. You will be in a position to influence and lead your peers in a positive way as well as assist them in fulfilling their educational goals.

The Class Representative is a voluntary position with major responsibilities to students as well as to Indiana Wesleyan University. You represent your core class, communicating the group's concerns, needs and suggestions to the university. Therefore, you will need to maintain open dialogue with your particular core class. When choosing a class representative or alternate please be aware that these positions shall not be filled by students who are employed by IWU, IPD or any other related entity which may be interpreted as a conflict of interest. This policy also refers to relatives of employees who are receiving tuition waiver.

The Class Representative does not speak for individual students. The Class Representative may be a resource person for individual students with particular questions, concerns and needs. In those situations, the Class Representative will refer the student to the appropriate person for resolving the issue. You will also be the key person for communicating information from the university to the student. We will provide you with key contacts for obtaining information from the university.

The fundamental role of the Class Representative is to communicate to and for the class as a whole and to be the liaison between the class and the university by informing either side of pertinent information.

This handbook should enable you as the Class Representative to complete your task effectively. Instructions are provided so that you will have a basic understanding of what to do each time your class meets. Responsibilities are spelled out for your interaction with the class as well as with the university. The Handbook provides a list of resource people to help answer your questions or the questions of your classmates. We have also provided a section of commonly requested and used forms for you to copy and/or provide for class members. We have even included an idea section to help you on your way.

We want to help you succeed in this endeavor. We really appreciate your willingness to serve your fellow students. If we can provide you with more information and support just let us know. Your first line of contact is your Student Service Advisor. He or she will work with you to obtain the information you need. Please feel free to contact student services as well with questions or concerns. You can call (800) 621-8667 ext. 2881 or email at aps.student.services@indwes.edu.

Again, we cannot thank you enough for your involvement as a Class Representative. You are a key to our continued success as a provider of quality, higher education to adult students and to changing the world.
