Spiritual Wellness

“Show me the path where I should go, O Lord; point out the right road for me to walk.”
                Psalms 25:4

If we make time to carefully listen to the directions God places on our heart, we will be guided well in all aspects of our life.

Stress Management

Consistently schedule adequate time for rest and sleep in your daily schedules. Physical and emotional fatigue can reduce personal energy and concentration and place you at greater risk for the consequences of a stressful encounter. How we respond to stress is the key, and without adequate sleep and rest one’s ability to respond in positive ways is greatly decreased.

General Wellness Perspective:

The coming holiday season is reported as the period of greatest weight gain for most Americans. Steps that can help reduce the risks of that weight gain and that can support one’s health status are : (Newsletter of Food, Nutrition and Health, Dec. 2009).

  • Reserve calories – if invited to a dinner gathering, save calories by eating a lighter lunch that day.
  • Exercise – Focus on keeping up with exercise activities. They not only burn calories but provide a source of stress reduction.
  • Do not skip breakfast – Research indicates those who skip breakfast will more than make up for those calories later in the day.
  • Be careful of the holiday “goodie” tray – Calories from each cookie and piece of fudge can add up quickly.
  • Do not starve yourself – Take an edge off of your hunger with a pre-party piece of a high fiber fruit such as an apple or a pear.
  • Fill up on high fiber/low calorie options – Select party options of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and beans and add a lean meat serving to balance it out.
  • Remember, portion size matters – Consider cutting precut portion sizes in half to help shave off calories.
  • Take healthy options – Provide positive options by taking light and healthy options to a party (fresh vegetable platter, fresh fruit, roasted chicken, shrimp cocktail).
  • Talk more, eat less – Make a party about conversations, not about camping out at the food table.

Wellness Attitude

Doubters have never changed anything, believers can change everything.
